Methodology & limits

State figures are compiled primarily from the Tax Foundation’s 2026 state income tax tables (drawn from state statutes and forms). Federal and FICA amounts come from IRS and SSA publications. City and county wage taxes are available in the W-2 calculator for jurisdictions we support (all Indiana and Maryland localities, plus major cities elsewhere). Most credits, phaseouts, and benefit-recapture rules are not fully modeled. Rates power the calculator directly — we do not maintain a separate marketing copy of the numbers.
